FINAL SUBMISSION

FINAL STAIR DETAILS

Fiona Hall's Studio

As Fiona Hall is an established photographer and sculptor, her art is always 'seductive to the eye and challenging to the intellect'1. Her choice of material, ordinary and natural materials which are transferred into 'complex and allusive objects is critical to her artwork as it engages with contemporary life in intriguing ways'.2

This being Hall's art practice, i have incorporated cantilevered stairs which reduce in length as you enter her studio which add another dimension and with the different stair materials ranging from glass to metal to timber it all combines together to help reflect Hall's core theme of her artwork.

Rosalie Gascoigne's Studio

Rosalie Gascoigne, unlike most artist shot to fame at the age of 57.
Inspired by poets throughout her career, but a poet herself through a different medium, which evident in her placement of objects throughout her work helps achieve her main goal:

'to come at things obliquely so as to catch out their thingliness'.1

Her artwork which is dictated by her surrounding environment such as colours, text and everyday materials is the reason behind the two separate studios which sit on two different levels, one is made from glass and timber, while the other is constructed from solid concrete which also helps create an balance between the two.
The solid concrete stairs which lead Gascoigne from the ground to both of her studios reflects her work, as her artwork is 'never a representation of nature but an interpretation of the feeling which that the landscape evokes'.2
